Lake Harbor Park is located in Norton Shores where the Mona Lake Channel flows into Lake Michigan. It’s an all season favorite here. Enjoy sledding the dunes in the winter, hiking and hitting the beach in the summer  Has a great boardwalk down to the beach!!

From US31 take Pontaluna Rd exit and go west on Pontaluna Rd. Continue down Pontaluna where it will turn into Lake Harbor Drive where you will see Hoffmaster State Park. Keep driving on Lake Harbor Drive and you will cross a bridge where the entrance to Lake Harbor Park is on your left just over the bridge.

I made the note at the bottom incorrectly but only Box#3 remains, sorry about that. We only found beer and liquor bottles and broken pieces of one of the boxes. Box#3 is still there and will update if and when we replace the first 3 boxes. Love the park but looks like some "night owls" have been misbehaving around there.

Box#1 - Bella’s Butterfly
Take the path at the SW corner of the parking lot. See the Welcome to Lake Harbor Park sign on you right and you are on the right path.
At the Mentor take the path to the right
Come to the info sign and take the trail between two signs.
Go up the trail and watch your step with the roots underfoot.
Come to the top of the hill and go on to descend down the trail.
Path continues but you do not. At the two trees in the path, take the trail heading down not up.
Look for a heart filled with David Loves Mary on your left.
On the path you will step over not 1 but 2 fallen logs.
Come to the ridge and look down to the north and see a fallen giant. Here in the stump you will find what you seek.

Box #2 - Jaclyn’s Sunshine
Go back up to where you saw David Loves Mary and turn right onto the trail.
As you continue on the trail go around tree that splits the path and continue west along the trail.
Turn down the trail to go between the wormy roots that stand on your right and your left.
Follow the sandy trail to the bench straight ahead.
From the west end of the bench go 35 paces where you will find a large wood post on your right.
Climb up the 14 weathered steps of all sizes.
Notice the large giant fallen to your left. Go along this giant until you see the galvanized pipe sticking up. Take this small trail and walk up to the tree that is bent over the hill. At it’s foot you will be standing on a concrete pad with a rectangle hole.
Take the small sandy trail up. Watch your head and duck under the small weeping tree.
Go up the rocky hill and see a rusty metal pipe running up on your right. This pipe will lead you up to where you’ll stop to turn. Go up on the ridge at the bend of the pipe. Look to the East and find the tree with the slit. In that slit hidden be the box that you seek.

Box#3 Play Ball
Come back down to the path and go right. Follow along the wooden railing on your right to the end where it turns. Follow the turn in the railing and take the small path going down the hill.
Continue along trail with tree on left and continue along between 2 bushes. A tree will block your path, step over it and continue on.
Go thru the lilies of the valley which will take you thru a living tunnel. Follow this trail down and left.
Continue thru the graveyard of trees. Watch your step as you go over several of the fallen trees.
Take trail going up the hill and see the snaky pine on your left as it slithers along the hill you are climbing.
Go up and over where you will come down to the sandy trail. At this junction turn left and go 16 steps. Go up hill on right to the peak. Turn right and you will see the stump that remains with many exposed roots. In the roots you will find what you seek.

Box 4 – Light My Way
Come back down to the sandy trail and go right to continue on your journey. Here the sandy trail becomes covered with needles.
30’ long tree follows along the path to your left. Come across not 1 but 2 fallen trees that you will have to step over to continue on. Take 13 steps after the last fallen tree and turn left to take the sandy trail up between 2 trees.
Continue up the trail with dune grass on both sides. STOP to take in the beautiful view of the lake : )
Ready? Take the trail to the left that goes along the ridge of the dune. Go down into the sand bowl and head up the hill to the south. Here at the top you will see the boardwalk ahead. Take the trail to the top of the deck and then go left to come back down the boardwalk stairs.
Come to the picnic table and turn 180 degrees and climb down the 5 steps. Follow along the edge of the boardwalk to the 3rd platform. Here under this platform you will find your final box.

Now you can go back on to the boardwalk and continue on past the outhouse to come back to the main trail. Go right to enjoy the beach. Go left to head back to the parking lot. You just need to follow the concrete path back…follow it down and to the left and the wide dirt path will bring you back to where you started.
