In Swanzey Center at Eaton Road and Rt. 32 is a large sign that many question...POT ASH BOWL. Pot Ash was used to make soap...and was a major industry in Colonial New England. A Depot was set up here for folks to come and sell their wood stove ash or 'potash' to be exported to countries as far as England and France. It is also here that the longest running outdoor play is still put on today by locals...a play written by Denman Thompson called 'The Old Homestead'! A witty play about a young man who moves back to Swanzey after living in NYC. Click on the above link to directions to the Pot Ash bowl sign and information about this play...this is where your journey to our letterbox will begin.
From Rt. 32 turn onto Simeneau Lane...park at the Carpenter Home near the rock wall. Walk up the left side of the wall and find Swanzey's first meeting house location dating from 1737. Walk to the right side of the rock wall and you will find the cemetary and start to the path to Mt. Caesar. Follow this all the way to the summit...

When at the summit enjoy the views, have a snack, and relax!

Now facing the gorgeous view, start at the radio tower and walk left 10 paces to find a large boulder with crevice. You will find your prize here...please replace it and if you are the FIRST to find the box there is a small prize for you to take!!

Enjoy and thanks for hiking with us!

Round trip time for this hike is 1.5 hours.
