Sandy Creek Park, locate off Hwy 441 north of Athens, GA is a fun place to visit and to look for a treasure! In the center of the park is Lake Chapman, which has a beach and allows swimming. The park also offers, in addition to Letterboxing, hiking, picnic sites, horse trails, playgrounds, fishing, and camping. It has a dog park where the dogs can run free, and a disc golf course, and so much more.
The cost to get in is $2 per person, but well worth it. The trail alone is worth the price.
Operating hours are: Tuesday thur Sunday (closed Monday except major holidays)
Nov-Feb: 8-6pm
March: 8-7pm
April-Nov: 7-9 pm

DIRECTIONS TO YOUR TRESURES:

1. THE HAUNTED HUNT:(this one is a drive by)
Enter the park then take an immediate right into the Visitor Center parking lot. Park at the end of lot away from the entrance. Look to your left and find the iron fence in the trees. Notice an opening in the trees and find the opening in the fence. There you’ll see 2 large trees, look where their trunks grow together. What you’re looking for is between the trunks under a rock and leaves. To be more discreet, go through the opening in the fence to the back side of the trees. Take note of the secluded resting place for Eugene and family.

2. CAREFUL, IT’S HOT!
Turn right out of the Visitors Center parking lot on Sandy Park Dr. Turn right on Campsite Dr. Park in the parking area of the campground on the left, .8 miles from the Visitors Center. Pass the “rest area” on the right (a good place for a break if you need it) and follow the trail to the left, downhill to the lake. Once at the lake, take Lakeside Trail to the right. The entire trail is 2.4 miles one way, but you’ll find what you’re looking for at 1.2 miles from the parking lot. The hike here is an easy one, and there are several places to stop and enjoy the view. When the trail diverges in the woods( which it will severaltimes), take the one “lakeside”. When you have traveled 1.2 miles, you’ll see the special place on the right. (If youy think you've missed it, keep going. YOu will travel about 1/2 around the lake, in and out of 1-2 cove-like areas. Keep going, it's just around the bend...) When you get there, it will seem that something is missing that would make this place even more inviting and cozy. To find what’s missing enter through the front door. Then go UP, as in smoke. What you’re looking for will be over head.
