September 2012 - This box was just reported IN GREAT SHAPE.

Also, this box that I now call NEW -Journey- letterbox has replaced the damage box. This box has a totally different journal and stamp than the original one that was placed in 2003.

Distance: Less than half mile
Terrain: Very Easy

Bring ink pad and pen.

East Lansing is the cultural and recreational center of Mid-Michigan. This campus city has Big Ten sports and campus cultural offerings that enrich audiences. The city produces numerous large-scale street festivals, outdoor concerts and special events for all ages to enjoy.

Patriarche Park is located on the corner of Alton and Saginaw Street in East Lansing, Michigan. East Lansing is home to the Spartans of Michigan State University. Once called Alton Park, was renamed Patriarche Park in September 1976 after John Patriarche who was the East Lansing City Manager from 1948-1976. Patriarche Park has a wonderful neighbourhood play area for children of all ages with a mix of old-fashioned fun and newfangled toys. Also pavilions for picnics, tennis courts, soccer fields and baseball diamonds.

DIRECTIONS TO THE PARK

FROM THE EAST - (Flint)
Take 69 West to Exit 94-East Lansing, this is Saginaw Street. Go down 3.5 miles to Alton Street. Turn left on Alton, then left on Whitehills Drive. This is the entrance to Patriarche Park.

FROM THE WEST – (Grand Rapids)
Take 96 East to 69 East (towards Flint); then Exit 94-East Lansing, this is Saginaw Street. Go down 3.5 miles to Alton Street. Turn left on Alton, then left on Whitehills Drive. This is the entrance to Patriarche Park.

FROM THE NORTH – (Mt. Pleasant or Clare)
Take US 27 south. Exit at MI 43/69 business route east, this is Saginaw Street. Turn left (east) at the exit ramp light. Staying in one of the two left lanes, travel 2.1 miles to Alton Street. Turn right on Alton, then left on Whitehills Drive. This is the entrance to Patriarche Park.

FROM THE SOUTH/EAST – (Detroit)
Take 96 West to US 127 North. Exit at MI 43/69 business route east, this is Saginaw Street. You will need to get into one of the 2 right lanes immediately in order to turn right at the very first light (Saginaw Street). After you make that right turn, stay in one of the two left lanes, travel 2.1 miles to Alton Street. Turn right on Alton, then left on Whitehills Drive. This is the entrance to Patriarche Park.

CLUES
From the Whitehills Drive entrance of the park:
Turn right into the parking lot, following it around to the left past the ball diamonds on the left, tennis courts will be on the right. Road turns left again around the back side of the park, go a short distance and you can park near this area.

Proceed to a wooded walking trail directly east of “Area C” (behind the baseball diamond). Heading east on this path into the woods, soccer fields will be on your right. Stay on this trail; it widens after a short distance and heads north. (If you can't see the trail due to over growth of ground cover, just walk east from parking lot; you will run into the trail.)

Heading north on this trail, you’ll go past 4 trees that resemble 2 pillars on both sides of the trail. Continue walking and you will see a smaller trail off to the left – stop; stay on your original path and go 46 paces. Look to the east for some cut tree logs. Look behind the tree where "Louie" left his mark. The letterbox should be on the north side of the 3 short & wide cut logs grouped together like a triangle. (Think of it as 3 wheels laying on their side). The LB should have several pieces of wood on it and also a large rock. Please do not place the LB in the middle of the 3 wheels as it makes it too noticable to non-boxers passing by.

Thanks for stopping!
