The Lowell Showboat is an icon to the city of Lowell. The showboat was a dream of Norman Borgenson, the Lowell Postmaster. He wanted the Lowell Board of Trade to sponsor a showboat Minstrel. In 1932 his dream came true and the first Showboat set sail. The showboat featured many local acts, and later drew big name artists during their festivities. The Showboat would continue to grow each year, and get bigger and bigger. The boat itself has undergone many changes. Most notably was the change that occured in 1978 when the Showboat was picked upside down and dropped onto the dock by straight line winds. The current boat was built in 1979 to replace it.

My family became apart of these festivities in 1968, when my Grandfather became an endman, singing along side Dinah Shore. His last year to perform was in 1980, where he shared the stage with Tammy Wynette and The Letterman! During these years, all eight of my grandfather's children were involved in some way with the showboat-- Boat Captain, Boat Operators, Endman and Chorus Members. As a little girl I remember going to the shows and helping my dad "drive the boat"!

To commemerate our great memories this very special stamp and logbook were made.
