*** Just stopped by the library this week (8/31/11) to check on this box, but we couldn't find it anywhere... Guess it was either taken and tossed out or was placed in a really obscure spot as we combed most of the book shelves upstairs in search for it... So, until we have time to make a new one, this one has gone missing... ***

This is our first year homeschooling. We learned about Letterboxing through a new friend from our Homeschool group in a neighboring city where the children take classes once each week and can participate in other traditional school activities like sports, clubs, plays, bees, and etc.

Since we are attending classes for the same number of days that any public school would do in our state to receive maximum student funding, we have likewise, been counting down the days that we have been in school for the '09-'10 academic year. We reached our 100th day on January 21st!

To celebrate this special day, we designed a stamp and secretly hid it in our local public library. Please do not ask the librarians for assistance in locating this letterbox, and make sure that no one sees you pull it from the shelf when you've located it. Be sneaky when you put it back too.

** We've been told that this letterbox has been relocated since the library changed some things around on this upper level. We have not had a chance yet to go to the library ourselves to locate our letterbox, but two different parties have found it - just with a bit more searching... For now, we are leaving the original directions, but we wanted to alert you that you may need to do some extra problem solving when you search for this box AKA book... Until we have time to repost the clues, try this if you'd like an extra challenge. It IS there, just not exactly where we originally placed it. **

The directions are straight forward; so you should not have any problem locating this letter-book - oh I mean, "box." First, you'll need to make your way downtown to the new Freeport Public Library. When you get there, go into the library and head up the stairs just to the left of the front desk area.

When you get to the top of these stairs, you'll notice mustard-gold colored pillars. From the left to the right, you will need to count "five." If you walk ahead to the one that is in front of you slightly to the right, this is pillar "three" and has a handicap accessible exit sign on it.

From there, walk past pillar number four, stopping at pillar "five." (You will be heading to your right from the perspective of being at the top of the steps facing the open 2nd floor of the library that is filled w/ computers, book shelves, and study areas.)

When you reach pillar "five," you will be by an aisle that runs along side several shelving units that are filled with books. Walk to your left and look for the shelf designation that reads: "392-574 Holidays, Dictionaries, Languages, Sciences."

When you find this large book shelf structure, look down at the 3rd from the bottom shelf (on the right side of this shelving unit). When we placed this letter-book, it was the sixth one in from the aisle. We placed it between a thin green book and a fat navy blue book. The letter-book is reddish-maroon in color. It is an American Pocket Medical Dictionary. The books that are around it are mapping books and almanacs.

We hope you enjoy finding our letter-book letterbox! Thank you for being a part of our 100th day of school celebration!
