There are various and rare albino plants, odd life forms which do not have the ability to photosynthesize since they have no gene for chlorophyll. Actually, the albino redwoods are parasitic and reside at the base of a non-albino redwood. Of albino plants the coastal redwood seems especially notable since redwoods are such a wondrous tree already. Word has it there may be up to 50 of these trees in existence, but who knows? Here is some info. on Youtube:

There are reportedly six known albino redwoods in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Here’s how to find one and a nearby letterbox. And just a warning, these trees are not necessarily things of great beauty and are fragile, short-lived and clinging to life. So be careful of this tree.

Several miles north of Weott on the Avenue of the Giants you will come to the California Federation of Women’s Clubs Grove. Turn in and drive about half a mile to the parking area. Now walk back down the road you drove down; it’s prettier on foot. When you reach the metal gate turn around again and walk back about 40 yards. Look to the right for an informal trail. Walk 20 yards on that path to a downed log. At the log turn left and walk on a path that is parallel to the direction of the downed log for 15 yards to a large redwood. At this point growing up out of the ravine and and at the back of that redwood you will see the albino redwood.

To find the Humboldt Ghost Tree Letterbox position yourself on the informal path closest to the ghost tree. Walk back or east about 23 steps. On your left should be a tree stump maybe 15 feet high. Walk around its back side to the inward folding spaces on the trunk. Facing those spaces on the left or east next to the trunk under duff and rotting wood should be the Humboldt Ghost Tree Letterbox.

Thanks for coming!! Hope you enjoyed seeing this cool tree!!
