Take County Route 18 toward North South Lake Campground and day use area. Just before the entrance turn right onto Scutt Road. Park in the parking lot. This is a little over a mile hike that will take you past the top of Kaaterskill Falls. Please be careful of high cliffs and slippery conditions. Follow the blue trail markers towards Laymans Monument, which honors a firefighter who lost his life, fighting a fire in 1900. When you get to the monument, face it and after reading the inscription, turn right and continue following the blue trail for just a little ways. The trail will take a sharp left up some rocks. Just before you start to climb up the rocks look to the left. Look for a rather large, some what vertical, light gray rock with lots of lichen growing on it.On the left of this rock, at ground level is a crevice,where the box is hidden behind some small rocks.You will have to get on your hands and knees to get it. Please rehide exactly as found. There are a few other letterboxes near by.
