Before looking for this letterbox, please watch National Treasure #2: Book of Secrets if you have not seen the movie before (or if it’s been a while, you may want to watch it again.)

The President’s secret book is located in the Library of Congress in the movie. Find a library in Colorado Springs that uses the Library of Congress organizational system. (Hint: it’s on a major street whose name has one word that starts with a ‘B’ and means ‘cliff or steep hill,’ and the other word is the same as the capital of Texas.)

Use the library computer to access the card catalogue system to search for “Queen Victoria.” (This catalogue is also online, if you want to solve the clues before you start out). Make a note of the call number of the first result and locate the book. You should be at the end of a row. Now look down at the bottom shelf below the book and remove the two books next to the end. In the side of the bookcase, there is a space between the outside edge of the metal shelving and a metal piece that holds the books upright inside the shelf. Reach a few inches down into this space.

Please retrieve and replace the box when there are no passersby. (I have been informed that muggles are very active here). Brown inkpad included. You may want to go to one of the tables nearby for stamping in. Please also be careful to retie leather strap.

Before you leave, be sure to look around the library a little and especially be sure to see the beautiful skylight / dome further down the hallway on the second floor.

This letterbox was planted with the gracious support and permission of the library administrators. Please respect this privilege by following all library policies, especially the cell phone policy (you may not place or receive any calls within the library, even if your ringer is turned off).

Enjoy your search!

NOTE ON PARKING: If you decide to go on a weekday, you will need to pay for parking ($1.75 per hour, $8.00 per day maximum. Meter machines are right outside the library. Ticket machines are on the 3rd floor of the parking garage or parking lots 1 and 8. You could also park at the lot up the street at the sports complex for free and take the shuttle down or park across the street. Parking is free on the weekends and certain other times of the year).
