If you have ever listened to the nationally-syndicated morning radio show “Bob and Tom”, you will be familiar with “Mr. Obvious”. This is a segment with Chick McGee, and it really can’t be explained; you just have to listen to it to understand. This series pays homage to it by shamelessly plagiarizing its basic premise.

Start by going to Spring Vale Cemetery in Lafayette, Indiana. The cemetery can easily be reached from I-65 by exiting at the State Road 25 (Delphi) exit. Go toward Lafayette and the cemetery is about 1 mile from the ramp. Spring Vale is located on the right (west) side of the highway. A Catholic cemetery is located on the left (east) side of the road and is not where you want to go for this series. Enter Spring Vale at the south entrance.

By the way, there is only one logbook. It is located in the last letterbox.

WHAT IS THIS?- This box answers a very important question for the Mr. Obvious series. Perhaps it is the most important part of the series itself. Hopefully, you will be enlightened when you find it. Somehow, our reason for being here rests in the answer.

Once you enter the cemetery, turn left at the first road. Immediately look for a dolphin on the right (west) side of the drive. If you get to a fork in the road, you’ve gone too far. Walk to the dolphin and continue behind it two more rows. At the Spoor grave, notice the two evergreens on each side. The answer lies in one of the trees.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?- Another important question. Many of us go through our entire lives without a clue. Are you one of these people? If so, this box will maybe help you. Sometimes it’s the simple questions in life that are the hardest to comprehend.

Return to the paved road and continue into the main part of the cemetery. Proceed over the stone bridge and go a quarter mile until you go past the stone building on the left, which is the cemetery office. Continue on down the hill to where the road turns. Stop and look for a large obelisk in the farthest Northwest corner of the cemetery. This is the Fowler memorial and honors one of the famous families of Lafayette from the late 19th century.

Arranged around the obelisk are several graves in a circle. Find Joseph Campbell Fowler’s grave and face the obelisk. Pretend that the obelisk is the center of a clock and Joseph Fowler’s grave is at six o’clock. Go to the one o’clock position and look between the Kissell and Galloway graves. Go to the tree at the edge of the woods that can be seen directly between the gravestones. Look in the vines at the base of the tree to find out what the heck you are doing.

HOW DO THEY FIND THESE THINGS?- Yes, letterboxing can be quite frustrating. There are literally thousands of boxes around the world under rocks, inside hollow trees, and buried under logs. What can a person do? As I said before, a lot of people don’t have a clue. So where can a guy or gal go to get a clue? Maybe this box can help.

Continue around the curve in the road and take the next right turn. Proceed until you are in front of the creepy Wellington Vault. This looks like an ornate bomb shelter from 1905 in shabby condition. Stand in front of its entrance with your back to the door and look slightly to your left in a northerly direction. See the Heath memorial across the road in the distance? You should walk to it and find two cedar trees nearby. This may help you know where to go to get a clue.

WAHT DO YOU SEE?- This is the last question of the Mr. Obvious series. There is not much more to say about it, so head back toward the south entrance from whence you came.

Don’t go too far, though. Right before you cross the bridge, stop at the first stone pillar on the left (east) side of the road. This pillar forms the first post of the fence. Walk directly past the pillar to the edge of the grass. There is a stone retention wall below you and you need to find the beginning of it. As you are at the top, look down and notice some holes between the stones. Down there, is a box with the “Mr. Obvious” answer to the question “What Do You See?” Well, look around. What do you see?

***After finding the fourth box, you may want to search the cemetery for Rnfrog's boxes, "Just Witchy" and "Boy Praying"
