On November 7th, 1873 a couple in Sunfield, Michigan gave birth to a healthy baby boy. The couple named him “Odd”.

Odd had a rough time growing up with such a different name. All the boys and girls at school would tease him about his name. Odd would come home upset everyday. His parents would console him and tell him “Everybody is different. Even though your name is different, you are very special and you will be a success at whatever you decide to do.”
Odd completed school and became successful in everything that he attempted to accomplish.

One fall afternoon Odd met a beautiful young lady, while he was out at the post office. She was the first woman who saw Odd for who he truly was – a kind, hard working, church going man. His name was never a concern to her. The two dated for quite sometime before they settled down, and got married. They then moved out of Sunfield to Shaytown, just a few miles to the south, but the ridiculing of his name followed them.

Odd would often come home upset from work as people continued to make fun of his name. What could he do? Change his name? No, that was the name his parents had given him, and that would be disrespectful to them. He continued on with his life, and the ridicule.

In the winter of 1925, Odd became gravely ill. Knowing that he only had a few days to live, he made a request to his dear wife. He said “I’ve been made fun of all of my life because of my name. When I pass, I would like you to leave my name off my marker and just leave it blank. All of my family will know where I am buried, but I won’t have people making fun of my name at my grave.” Odd passed away a few days later and his wife honored his request with a plain grave marker. He was buried in the Welch Cemetery on Shaytown Road (between St. Joe Hwy and Mt. Hope Hwy).

84 years later a couple was visiting a relative that was buried in that same cemetery. As they walked along the main drive to the back where the drive makes a left, they noticed the 2nd grave past the Bishop on their left. Seeing that there was no name or dates on the stone and that it was a very small stone, the two looked at each other and said, “Hmmmmm…(seek the rest of their conversation in the tree profusion on your left)!!

Please make sure to close box tightly, making sure the baggies don't get stuck in the box seal, and rehide well!
Hope You enjoyed the Life and Times of Odd :)
