THIS BOX HAS RELOCATED (May 2010) NEW CLUES BELOW:

This letterbox is part of “The Great Atlas Quest Letterbox Exchange 09 (GAQLBE09).”
The stamp in this box was carved by Lady Slpa from Maine and in return Aspen carved a stamp and sent it to Maine where it was planted.

A Maine Quarter found its home in a quaint park in Aztec New Mexico. Aztec is located 10 miles on US-NM Highway 550 from Farmington to the south and within a one hour drive from Durango, CO to the north. Aztec (pop 5,800), is a small hamlet along the banks of the Animas River. It is in the foothills of southern Colorado and is the southern gateway town to the rocky mountains. Visitors will find Aztec an excellent base for a number of adventures both recreational and historical.

To find the “Main Quarter,” you must go south on S. Light Plant Rd. off of Aztec Blvd/Hwy 516. (CLUE: Wendy will be smiling at you from the NE corner of the intersection you need to turn on). Drive until you see the entrance of Riverside Park and go through. You will see a pond on the right. Park at the first entrance by the Welcome to Riverside Park sign. To the right is the original generating site of Aztec Light & Power Co. (Electricity was first produced in January 1910 and continued for 43 years) To the right of the old site is a small white bridge. Cross this bridge and once on the other side take approx. 19 steps on the trail. You should end up across the stream from the generating site with the river to the right. Look forward and then toward the river and you will see a crumbling wall in the brush (there are 2 walls, so if you are looking at the river standing between the 2, it is the wall to the left) the Main Quarter is under a spor IN the crumbling part of this wall.

Please be very discreet, this can be a busy place. Do a good job of putting things back the way you found them. Enjoy the park, plan a picnic when you come. There are usually ducks and geese on the pond.
