This letterbox can be found in the Sylvan Glen Preserve, also home to the old Mohegan Quarry. The preserve is located at the end of Morris Lane off of Lexington Avenue in Mohegan Lake.

Hi. We are the Hobos Downtown and we would love it if you would come on a walk with us as we tell you about our special childhood and show you one of our many secret hiding places. Are you ready? O.K., here we go. For this trip, we are going to stay on the white trail.
Before entering the preserve, there is a small enclosure which houses some maps, look up and see if there are any toys left up on the shelf. If you see one, please leave it there. Our sister is always leaving her toys around. Let us know what you found when you reach the end of our walk. O.K., onward and upward. First, we would like to show you our classroom. If you walk straight ahead, on the left you will see where grandma hobo used to teach us. We loved learning about all the nature around us. As you continue to walk, carved on a tree on your right are the initials JKL 11-28-92. This is a dear friend of M, N, O and P’s. We always liked playing with them when they were around. Following the white path, as it curves to the left you will see a rock crop on the right. Keep walking until you see a tree with a painted white line (a white marker) on the right. From the tree look in a diagonal to the left and you will see a tree with a long narrow hollow. This is where my brothers and sisters used to play a game called “rock slide”. There should be a grouping of small pebbles right next to the tree. On the back of the tree is a hole. Place one pebble in the hole and watch it slide down the chute and out the other side. We used to play this for hours. Please make sure to leave a pile of pebbles before you continue on. O.K., now that you’ve had some playtime, let’s keep walking. As the white path bears to the right, look for our friend “Rocksanne”. She’s hangin’ with some painted rock crops. She is very large and has beautiful red lipstick on. She’s always ready to go out and have some fun, so, stay and play for a while with our friends and say hi to her from us. As you continue, you will see a tree on the left with 3 yellow dots on it. DON”T TURN! That’s only the mustard from our hotdogs. Stay on the white path and you will come across a “soft” rock on the right of the path. This is where Grandma Hobo used to rest her heavy bones. There is also a tree on the right side with some measuring lines. This is where she measured all of us Hobos. As you can see, some of us grew very tall! From Granma’s soft rock, take 8 giant steps on the path and you will see a rotting tree on the right with a very large hole in it. Carefully reach in making sure none of our family pets are sleeping in there, and you will find our secret hiding place. Please be sure to tell us if you found any of our sister’s toys at the beginning of your adventure. Please also make sure to put everything back and hide the box well.
We hope you enjoyed your walk.
