Life is a 3 Ring Circus - #5
Ring # 3, The Elephants

EASY

Directions:

Although your quest begins in Brooklyn, Box #5 will actually be found in Pomfret.

Starting in Brooklyn Center, at the intersection of Route 6 and Route 169, drive
north on Route 169 for exactly 5 miles. Route 169 is a designated “Scenic Road” so enjoy the old colonial homes, as well as the apple orchard, and the greyhound kennels. This will bring you to the traffic light at the intersection of Route 101.

Continue straight ahead on Route 169. After a very sharp curve to the right you will
pass Murdock Road on your left. This
will be just before you have gone one mile.

Immediately after Murdock Rd, you will turn left between two stone pillars into a cemetery. The road through the cemetery is ONE WAY, so you must enter through
the first gate. This is a well kept and very old cemetery. The sign reads “Pomfret
Cemetery Corp., Wappoquia Cemetery, Sabin Cemetery, South Cemetery. Est. 1719”

Follow the drive to its highest point. On your left you will see the graves of Bela Searls and his wife Hannah. They, like many others here were born in the 1700’s. Proceed a little further
part-way down the hill, past the the headstones of Russell and Helena Forsyth looking for the beautiful young Angel, keeping watch from the
top of the large, short tree stump. Be aware of poison ivy and also strands of old barbed wire near the stump.

You will find what you seek behind the stump in its own little crypt. Since you are out in the open and very visible, please be discreet and do your stamping away from the hiding place. Please try to cover the box well with stones or pieces of bark so it is not easily visible. And as always, please show the proper respect for the souls buried there.

Maybe you will have some time to spend investigating some of the other interesting
monuments. As you continue down the hill there is an unusual grouping of 9 or 10
small stones in a semi-circle at the bottom. I would love to know the reason for that,
as they do not all have the same surname and I do not think they were all infants.

We hope you found this interesting and that you have also found the 1st four boxes of this series and that you will look for #6 which has now been planted. You will find the clues for #6 listed under Putnam. # 1 is listed under Danielson.
