Ontario Pathways "Pathways for People"
This is a really wonderful railtrail that has 23 miles between Phelps and Canandaigua. For this letterbox you will park at Water Tower in hamlet of Orleans on waddel road between Route 488 and County Road #23. Walk south across County Road #23, walk around trail gate and continue south on trail about 1/2 mile. (easy 15 minute walk) on your right you will see a large rock with commorative plaque telling you what happened in 1964 in this area. The treasure you seek is thirty paces further south on trail, to your left is an old unused trail and to your right at this junction you will see two large trees whose base touch forming a V. check out the ground around these bases.
The Pathways is a lovely trail take time to hike more of it, and pick up information on other parking spots to hike the entire 23 miles. There are kiosks at some parking locations that give you more historical information.
