Level of hiking required: easy

Level of clue difficulty: easy

Starting point: Central Douglas County Family YMCA, 1150 NW Stewart Parkway, Roseburg, OR 97471, located just a short drive from any of the Roseburg exits on I-5.

Clues: Start at the door to the YMCA where you would enter to go roller skating. Face 70º and walk towards the volleyball courts until you come to the paved bicycle/pedestrian path and head north along the path through the parking lot and across the street at the red brick road.

Continue on the path keeping the golfers on your right. When the path takes a sharp right hand turn, follow it and continue on the pavement. Watch for herons on the pond and airplanes overhead. Take the time to appreciate the mountains all around you and the sky above – no matter the weather.

When the path takes a bend to the left, start counting the large conifer trees. At the eleventh tree, take a bearing of 320º and walk across a small concrete bridge towards the pond.

Head towards the wooden platform with benches where you can watch the wildlife. Watch for muggles as you reach under the left side of the ramp leading to the platform. There you will find the kissing fish letterbos.

When finished reading stories and enjoying the stamps, be sure to seal the box carefully and hide well for future letterboxers to find.
