History- In the early 1870's, the Worcester,Nashua, and Portland Railroad constructed a line through West Hampstead for passenger and freight trains. There was a wooden bridge over the tracks on Rt. 121 (Main St.)It was taken down about 1938 and the state of N.H. acquired the old railroad bed. The railroad was important to Hampstead. Farmers shipped milk, mills shipped lumber and the shoe factories sent their shoes. Supplies came to the country stores. People rode the rails.

Clues-- Travel to Main St.West Hampstead. (Rt.121) Park across from Ordway Park and just south of the gift shop. Walk around the gate and down to the railroad bed. Walk through the underpass. Continue walking until you come to a sign saying N.H.Snowmobile Corridor Trail No.15 N. Cross the road. As you continue you'll notice a large rock and wet land on your left. Look for a large crooked pine tree on your right very close to the edge of the trail. Take 90 steps forward. The letterbox will be at the low rotten stump on your left.
Approvimately 40 minutes round trip.
