Once upon a time in a far away land there lived a curly-haired princess. Confined to the remains of a crumbling castle she lived her days playing amongst the roots and trees. A long-ago spell destined her to dwell there forever lest a handsome prince was able to locate her heart, lost among the remains, and presented to the princess. Thereby the spell would be broken and the two would find a love unparalleled by any other and live happily ever after.

Travel to the castle by taking Hwy 101 to Hwy 154. Drive 7.8 miles to East Camino Cielo Road on the right. Turn right and continue 3 miles to a Forest Service Gate on the left, 0.9 miles past Painted Cave Road. Parking pull-outs are on the right-hand side of the road.

Cross East Camino Cielo Road and hike north past the Forest Service Private Property Gate. Bear right past a second Private Property Gate (permission to pass is granted by the owners). In less than 1/2 mile the castle ruins come into view on a point overlooking the river valley and the San Rafael Mnts.

To locate the heart, find the furthest fireplace from the trail. Follow the path to your left, when facing the fireplace, down that leads to the outside wall of the castle. Take seven paces from the edge of the wall to your left to a boulder on your left hand. Two rocks to the left of this boulder is the heart of the princess, long-guarded but now totally Yours.

And they lived happily ever after...
