History -- Kelly Brook also known as Darby Hill Brook flows southeast between Central Street and East Road in Hampstead, NH. This brook furnished power for sawmills from early 1730's into the mid 1800's. They were built by Bartholomew Heath. The smaller ones were shingle mills. This area is on Hampstead Conservation land.
Clues:
Take Spring Brook Rd off East Rd., Turn left into Rolling Hill Rd. Turn right onto Golden Meadow. Park at the cul-de-sac at the end. Enter the wooded path just beyond the mailbox on the right. Pass through 2 large boulders and cross the wooden bridge. Take a right at the fork in the path. Take the next right. (not up the hill) Soon you will see large boulders on your left. Continue the trail along the brook. You will see a house on your right. Notice the remnants of a rock crossing over the brook. At the fork take the path to the right toward the brook. Cross the wooden bridge. Look for the stonewall on your left. After a mossy rock and under the triangular shaped rock you'll find the letterbox.
Approximately 30 minutes round trip. Some areas could be wet if we have lots of rain.
