***BOX HAS BEEN RETIRED***

My husband is an avid runner and we tend to travel out of town quite often so he can compete in races. Since my daughter and I are usually left to wander around town while the race is going on, I thought this would be a great opportunity to plant some letterboxes. I decided to start a running theme and plant a letterbox in each town we travel to for my husband’s races. He finished his first marathon in Spring Lake Michigan. The marathon started in Spring Lake and made it's way through Ferrysburg and Fruitport and then back to Spring Lake again. We planted the second box of this theme in a wonderful park that is along the race course.

Coast Guart Park is located North Shore Drive about a mile west of 174th Ave (Grand Haven Road). The park offers playground equipment, a soccer field, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, baseball field, paved (and unpaved) trails, grills & picnic areas, restrooms and plenty of parking. You can read an article about the park here: article

CLUES:

When you arrive at Coast Guard Park, take the entrance road into the park and turn right. Follow the driveway all the way until it makes a circle. The paved trail starts on the north side of this circle, between the pavilion and the tennis courts. Follow this paved trail, past the bench that is dedicated to Mr. Regester. After passing the bench, the trail curves gently before making a sharp right curve followed by a sharp left. At the sharp left, you should now be able to see another bench further up along the trail. At the sharp left, leave the paved trail and take the unpaved trail to the right.

Follow the unpaved trail for awhile. Watch the ground. Eventually you will see a short small stump on the right side of the trail, almost IN the trail. Stop here. If you get to a 5-trunked tree on the right side of the trail, you've gone too far. From the small stump, at 140° sight a downed tree at the base of a standing tree. You will find the box tucked into the crook of the Y of the fallen tree.

When finished, please make sure the box is closed at all 4 corners and concealed well. If you notice the book getting full, please email me so I can replace it.
