Myrtle the Turtle

These are the instruction to reach Myrtle. Go south out of Delphi on State Road 25 past the Dairy Queen to Trailhead park, which is on the right (west) side of the road. Walk across the suspension bridge and turn left (west). Follow the path to the next T intersection. Just before you reach the intersection, you will walk through a large dip in the path. This is the long-empty Wabash and Erie Canal. When you walk up the path to the intersection, you will be standing on the old towpath. Stop in front of the sign that says “Wabash Sunset Pt/Van Scoy Towpath”. Look directly behind you. There is a tree with a hole at the base on the northeast side of the intersection of the paths. Reach up inside the largest hole for Myrtle. Before leaving, you might want to walk south toward Wabash Sunset Point. This short walk will take you to a small point where the Wabash River and Deer Creek merge and is a beautiful sight.

Box #2
Madonna

These are the instruction to reach Madonna. Turn right (north) on Van Scoy Towpath and walk until you find the information sign. It will be titled “Building the Canal: An Irish Epic.” While facing the sign, look to your right across the towpath behind you to the first tree after the sign. On the canal-side of the tree at the bottom, you will find Madonna. She is here in respect to all the Irish workers who lost their lives building the canal.
