1000 Acre Swamp is located on Jackson Road about ½ mile north of Atlantic Avenue.
These trails are a variety of dirt paths and types of boardwalks. They are mostly level and a fairly easy walk.
From the parking lot walk toward the kiosk. We would suggest signing in and grabbing a trail guide.
Begin walking the trail. You will see the “Entrance Trail” sign just inside the woods. At the intersection of Deer Run and Song Bird Trails, turn left and follow the Song Bird Trail. As you walk, notice the old wooden fencing on the right. You will pass through it at a nature sanctuary sign. Continue walking. You will travel over a variety of dirt paths and boardwalks. You will come upon a stone wall that you will also need to pass through. Down a bit, you will come to the end of the trail. Turn left onto Deer Run and then take a right onto Weasel Way.
Just passed a huge 4 trunked tree you will need to turn right onto Warbler Fen. You will pass by a group of large fallen trees. (You will first notice the roots!) Shorty after, the trail turns left and there is a three trunked tree at the "corner". Just before the tree, you'll find the 1000 Volt Ghost hiding under the boardwalk. Please be careful to hide the box before you leave.
To return to the parking lot: Turn left as the boardwalk continues and follow the path straight ahead. You will pass a several trunked tree with lots of roots exposed. (Didn't see this tree on 8/1/12 - May have been removed) Continue on. After you pass another huge fallen tree turn right onto Trillium Trail. (There is a sign that says “To Parking Lot.”) At the end of the trail, turn left onto Deer Run and follow that back to the kiosk and parking lot.
