From Traverse city head south on garfield rd.. Continue to follow garfield rd until you see a small dirt road on the left called mayfield road (it is located just before the very small town of Mayfield). Turn left onto mayfield road and follow until you come to the one lane bridge. Pull over onto the right of the road just before the bridge and park. Walk straight into the woods starting at the edge of the bridge, you will come to a well traveled trail (used by hikers and horses), turn left and head to the stream. At the stream stand with your back to the water and head aprox 125 paces back the way you came staying on the trail. You should be at the top of a small hill, look to your right and you will see a large tree just a ways in the woods that looks like it is ready to walk away on its roots. Under the unearthed root structure you will find the letterbox. Please rehide well this is a active area.
