Moore Park is located in the northwest quarter of Ames at 3050 Northridge Parkway. To reach it drive west on 24th Street. After the intersection with Stange Road the road curves and becomes George Washington Carver Avenue. Turn left from GWC onto Northridge Parkway. Follow the parkway until you reach Moore Park. There are directional signs. From the parking lot, walk past a very large corncrib to a tall wooden watchtower. Climb the tower, counting the stairs. From the observation deck enjoy the view of the prairie, Veenker golf course and Iowa State University.

With your compass locate a small shake-roofed structure SSW at 210 degrees. You can also pinpoint this visually by looking carefully between the red barn and silo. Retrace your steps down from the tower and make your way to a covered picnic bench, the structure that you spotted earlier. A walnut tree stands directly behind the table, and behind that is a small beaver lodge. Don’t worry; there are no beavers. Check the back door to the lodge for the letterbox, taking a slightly roundabout way. Carry the box to the table if it is unoccupied for your stamping. Rehide well, using a different path in order to avoid flattening the vegetation hiding the box.

NOTE:
As of April, 2011, the wooden watchtower was removed due to vandalism. Please use the following directions to find the letterbox.

From the parking lot, walk on the path to the right of a very large corncrib. Follow the curving path down the hill, passing a red barn and silo on the left, while enjoying the view of the prairie, Iowa State University, and Veenker golf course. Continue around the big loop until you come to a covered picnic bench on the right.

The second letterbox has disappeared repeatedly. Because of scheduled construction in this area of Moore Park it is not being replaced.
