(Alive and well in August 2014. Lonely, though. No visitors in over a year! This is an easy find.)

Go toward St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin. From WI Hwy 8/35, turn north on 87 (S. Washington Street) and drive through the business district of St. Croix Falls (25 mph).

Leaving St. Croix Falls behind (and after you pass Lions Park), take a left on River Road toward Spangler's Landing. Go almost 5 miles.

Otter Slide Avenue is about a tenth of a mile down river from Spangler's Landing. (If you arrive at Spangler's, turn around and drive back to the last tarred side road, Otter Slide Avenue.)

The St. Croix River campsites are identified from the road by looking for small gravel areas next to the road where cars have parked.

At about 50 steps south of Otter Slide Avenue, locate the gravel parking area for the campsite.

Be respectful of campers who may be occupying the campsite. If a vehicle is there, come back another time.

If no vehicle is there, park on the gravel area and take one of the paths down to the riparian camp. (Again, if boaters occupy the camp, turn around and come back another time.)

Once you have occupied the campsite, walk to the fire pit and stand with your back to the fire pit and the river, looking back toward the road.

See three paths. (The path on the right goes to the latrine.) Sight the path on the left, closest to the St. Croix River.

From the fire pit, go less than 20 steps toward that path on the left. Stop.

Go up the little hill. Stop.

Walk five more steps. Stop.

Step off the path to the left, following the direction of the river (NNW on a compass), walk about 40-45 steps. Stop.

Look left toward the river. You should see a nicely formed four-trunked tree. Walk to that tree.

St. Croix River Cat is there, under bark and branches. Meow!
