The Cat Who Came To Breakfast is the 17th mystery novel by Lilian Jackson Braun and is part of the “Cat Who” series, featuring Jim Qwilleran and his cats Koko and Yum Yum. This time they solve a mystery at the newly sprouted Breakfast Island, a resort hot spot with an attractive history. This microbox is not on an island, but is near a catwalk, so I thought it would be appropriate. The Catwalk, a National Recreation trail along the canyon of Whitewater Creek, is a unique feature of southwestern New Mexico. The Catwalk follows the path of the pipeline built in the 1890s to deliver water to the mining town of Graham. Workmen who had to enter the canyon by crawling atop the narrow pipeline named the route the Catwalk. In the 1930s the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) built a trail consisting of a hanging walkway following the path of the old pipeline. The Forest Service rebuilt the trail in 1961, and in 1978 it was designated a National Recreation Trail. For a small fee you can enjoy this trail and the picnic area, plus find this box.

Directions:
From Glenwood, go east 5 miles on Hwy 180, then north on Hwy 174 for 5 miles to The Catwalk. Park and pay the fee.

Clues:
Walk on the trail, staying left at the jct (moderate), for about 200 yards where the trail curves left just before a rail on the right. You should be able to see a gap through the rocks where the trail continues to the catwalk around the bend. Climb up to your right off trail to a medium pine tree about 5 steps away. Look behind tree for cactus growing in rock wall. The microbox is behind the cactus under rocks. Please replace as described and be discreet.
