It is well known that letterboxing has helped many people with their physical problems. This Trail of Fears series is designed to help deal with mental ones as well. Some commonly occurring irrational hangups can be overcome by employing the highly successful treatment known as "encounter therapy". Compared to consulting a psychiatrist, you can amortize the cost of your gas for letterboxing for a year in one easy session.

Pyrophobia = the fear of fire itself, and anything associated with fire.

Directions: Near the 16 Mile Marker along the Cannon Valley Trail is a side trail to the north marked "Historic Pearson Camp". Head straight north along that trail for 150 feet. That will take you to a narrow bench by the river. From there, head 77° for 288 feet (downstream along the river). This will take you to a large brick fireplace; but the fire should be out. If you come to a burned-out stump you went too far. From the fireplace go 40 feet NNE where you'll find the box under the fifth step of some kiln-fired ceramic stairs.

Until Nov. 1 there is a $3/day or $20/year pass required for biking or rollerblading on the trail. Otherwise it's free.
