Getting there:
Take I-90, exit 28, Rte 30-A Fonda/Johnstown/Gloversville.

This is a BONUS box as it contains the stamp "KALANEKA" (Johnstown Indian Name meaning "a place to stop and fill one's bowl with food and drink").

This building in the center of Johnstown houses many City Departments. It is here one can speak with the Mayor, purchase a permit, pay taxes, or seek the aid of the police.

City Hall offices originally were housed at 21 South William Street and were on the second floor above the Fire Department. Unfortunately, a terrible fire in 1925 destroyed those offices. Both the third and fourth floor was damaged beyond repair forcing the city to build a new facility.

This more modern building was dedicated October 18, 1927. Today it has undergone some minor changes, but basically remains as it was first designed over 70 years ago. Once you are at City Hall, if it is open, stop in and say "hi" to our current Mayor, Honorable Sarah Slingerland, the first woman mayor of Johnstown. As you look at the building from the front, walk toward the left of the structure and search the shrubs for your treasure. Remember, this location also houses our POLICE department, but the chief has approved the box being there (aware that SLLBers-suspicious looking letterboxers will show up)... so fear not in finding what you seek!

I am NOT a native, but a transplant to Johnstown, however, I love the history of the city. SO, make sure you check out the other "historical" boxes around town when you get the chance.
