Clue Difficulty: Easy

Terrain: On a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being the easiest, we would rate this a 2.0

Description: This letterbox is located in a scenic location just off of the multi-use paved hiking/biking trail that runs adjacent to the Trout Creek Section of the Lower Hillsborough Wilderness Area. From this location, you get a great view of the Hillsborough River and an interesting look at a man-made structure that controls the river flow - a spillway. Look closely and you might get a glimpse of some of the local wildlife, including the many gators, waterfowl, and amphibians who inhabit the Hillsborough River and its environs.

Directions: From I-75 exit at Fletcher Avenue, head northeast on Morris Bridge Rd. for 0.5 miles. Look for park entrance on left. Follow road 1 mile to parking area. Admission is free, but donations to “iron ranger” are appreciated. All donations go toward park improvements

Clue: After parking in the above-mentioned parking lot, orient yourself in the direction of the Hillsborough River, turn left and walk along the road, past the canoe launch toward the trail that runs adjacent to the roadway leading to the parking lot. Walk toward the spillway bridge spanning the Hillsborough River but do not cross the bridge. Instead, turn left before the bridge and walk downhill along the river bank until the big yellow spillway sign is behind you. You will soon arrive at a small stream crossing…DON’T CROSS IT! Instead turn left, make your way around the brambles, turn left again and look around for a big tree. The letterbox is located under leaf litter , sticks and stuff at the base of this tree. If you are in the right place, you will be surrounded with some light overgrowth & brambles with a tree in front of you and you should see the trail in the distance.
