The Erie Canal was constructed between 1817 and 1825. Men used shovels and picks to dig the canal by hand. Mitchell Road is located next to the canal and is home to many historic residences (including a barn that was once in our family).

Go to Mitchell Road and look for the orange sign that indicates the Canal Park Trailway. Park ACROSS the street from this sign.

Start walking on the Canal Park Trailway TOWARDS the canal.

When you come to a Y in the path, follow the path on the right side to the canal.

Walk on the towpath so that the canal is on your left side.

Stop when you reach a gate on your right. This gate leads to what used to be a carriage house and barn.

Walk 12-15 more steps on the towpath until you are at a tree that has 4 trunks and a hole.

As the youngest in our family says "Behind the tree is your destiny!"

**If you reach the Mitchell Road bridge you have gone too far.**

We hope you enjoy finding our first letterbox!
