At the dedication of the Lady Bird Johnson Grove in Redwood National Park numerous dignitaries were present and/or took part in the ceremonies August 27, 1969. One of those present was the then President of the United States, Richard Nixon, and his wife, Pat.

To find this letterbox drive to the beautiful Lady Bird Johnson Grove just north of Orick on Hwy. 101. Park and begin walking the loop trail. There are more than one bench in the grove. Walk to the bench which is on the left with a trail sign and arrow close by on the right. From the trail sign walk on the path to the right 21 steps to a large redwood tree. Look at the base of this tree and note a major indentation in the trunk facing the trail. Push away the forest debris and reach in for the letterbox.

After stamping in please replace carefully making sure to once again obscure the box from sight. It’s wet in the redwood forest most of the year, so please close it up tightly and thanks for coming!!
