Lake Milton State Park has several parts. You can swim, boat, hike fish, just enjoy the outdoors. Go to the entrance east of the bridge on Mahoning Avenue on the south side of the road and turn in. The park office is there.
You will notice a trailhead east of the parking area. Enter there and follow the path into the trees. (Watch out for poison ivy as you enter the woods and walk.)
This trail was created for an Eagle Scout project quite a few years ago. A second Eagle Scout project upgraded the trail. There are numbedred markers as you walk. After you cross the second bridge and go up the wooden steps follow the trail to the right. It is really pretty back in the woods and an unexpected rock-strewn stream is a nice surprise.
Continue following the trail until you come to marker #15. As you face the marker you will see a large tree listing to the right. Look to the area behind the listing tree and you will see another tree about 25 feet behind it with large exposed roots. Walk over to that tree and "root around". You will find what you are looking for.
Be sure to bring your own stamp pad and pen/pencil with you on your hike.
Happy hunting!
