Hannacroix Preserve: The 113 acre preserve is owned by the Open Space Institute and the Town of New Baltimore and managed by the New Baltimore Conservancy. There are several marked hiking trails, one leading to a lovely waterfall and another along an interpretive walk to the Hudson River.

Getting to the Preserve:

From the North: Take I-87 South to the Selkirk Exit (#22) and turn Right on Route 144 South (River Road). Follow Route 144 south about 5 miles through the hamlet of Coeymans Landing toward New Baltimore. The Preserve is just over the Greene County line. Look for the Hannacroix Preserve sign on the right and follow the gravel drive to a parking area with an information kiosk.

From the South: Take I-87 North to Exit 21B (Coxsackie) and turn Right on Route 9W North about 2.2 miles. Turn Right on Route 144. Follow Route 144 about 3.3 miles through the New Baltimore National Historic District. About a mile north of the hamlet you will first come to the sign for the Hudson River Interpretive Trail. Just beyond it on the Left is the sign and entrance for the Hannacroix Preserve. Take the gravel drive to a parking area with an information kiosk.

Clues:

From the information kiosk take the LaVern E. Irving Trail a quarter mile to the junction of Red Trail. Turn left onto the Red Trail and take about 28 steps to a wooden bench situated where the trail divides. Sit in the center of the bench facing back the way you came and reach down (carefully!) with your right hand behind the log pedestal under the end of the bench.
