Happy Days in the Uhrenholdt Memorial Forest
The Uhrenholdt Memorial Forest is found off of “OO” near Seeley, WI. Turn on “OO” at Seeley and drive a very short distance. Look for the Uhrenholdt Forest sign on your right and park in front of the sign. Take a guide for your nature hike on the north side of “OO.” Cross the road at the sign and walk against the traffic for a short distance. The trail is not marked but there is a well worn path you can’t miss. If you go past the telephone pole you have gone too far.
Begin your nature hike here and look for the numbered signs. At each sign read what the guide book says about this “undisturbed by man” forest.
At number 5 stop and identify the white and red pines by its bark and needle cluster. Take 21 paces from #5; if you go past the bench you’ve gone too far.
At 21 paces identify the pine tree on your right. Walk around the left side of the tree and look for the letterbox hidden under a rotten log.
Take the letter box back to the path to “stamp up.” Carefully replace the letter box deep under the log. Now, enjoy the rest of your hike in this wonderfully preserved forest.
