Forty-five years ago, my Dad got a charcoal grill with S&H green stamps. My Mom hated everything about grilling except for the finished product. Twice a year, he would take the grill to the state park for our family picnics. When we arrived, he and my uncles would take it out of the box and put it together. Then he'd proceed to do his job of cooking the best burgers and hot dogs we ever tasted. When he was done, he'd let the grill cool, wash it, take it apart, and put it back in its box until the next event. He lovingly and willingly did this chore for forty years. Finally, five years ago the old grill died. Too bad he didn't keep the receipt, the manufacturer may have given him a new one as a prize for owning the oldest grill ever. My sister bought him a little gas grill a few years back to replace his old friend. My mom still makes him clean it and put it back in the box. Some things never change!

Go to the Hilton Area of Patapsco State Park. Follow Frederick Road to South Rolling Rd to Hilton Ave to the park entrance. From the park entrance, turn right at the playground into parking area at pavillion #245. Walk over to the baseball backstop, then head out along first base line to the outfield. Look right for an old concrete water fountain that looks like steps. What you seek in under some rocks in the drain hole. Bring a picnic and bring your own grill! Poppy took his home! This is a fee area but only on the weekends.
