This site is an old dam that has opened up either intentionally or unintentionally, obviously numerous years ago. The stream flows under the road and wanders out to Crystal Lake. If you go further up the road, you will spot another lake (Sunset) with a newer dam that controls the flow of water you have seen through the old dam.
Clues: Find Crystal Lake Road off Rte 140 in Gilmanton Iron Works, NH. Follow Crystal Lake Road several miles, passing a dam, baseball field and the lake until you see a sign for "Hidden Valley". Take the right here onto Places Mill Road and follow the dirt road past the boy scout reservation to the narrow bridge. Pull off the road on your right. Walk across the road and stand at the right end of the guardrail. Take 20 steps to your right and turn left and face the rock wall. Note the 4 trees in front of you. One tree is broken off and is a very tall stump. Spot the wall in the center of the trees and find the "Stonewall Stream" stamp behind a loose stone about chest high. Please rehide well in this same spot. Enjoy the stream on both sides of the road. You can follow down stream a ways. There is a private residence down the unpaved driveway but there is a trail along the stream.
You can return the way you came or continue on this road to the end, turn right and follow several miles until you come to Mountain Road on your right and follow this back to the beginning of Crystal Lake Road and Rte 140.
