Follow 395 into downtown Lone Pine, CA. Take Whitney Portal Road at the only lighted intersection in town. Take a left onto Horseshoe Meadow Road. Follow road all the way up the mountain and keep going straight until you see a turn on the left for day use picnic parking. Take that left and park near the bathroom facilities.
Just past the bathrooms you can see an information board. Go to that board. Go all the way to the right pole near the trout fish info. Take one step to the right. With your back to the bathroom, take 50 steps straight ahead toward a large dead tree horizontal on the ground. You should be walking between two picnic tables and not toward a picnic table. Once you get to the tree, go to the roots or base of the tree and the treasure is hidden towards the bottom under some wood. Bring an ink pad please. We used recycled materials to make this letterbox. Since we live in NH, we cannot check this box often, so any help you can give it would be much appreciated. We used to go camping in this special area as kids and it brings us beautiful memories. There are lots of hiking trails, most are for the more serious hiker (longer distances) but very beautiful.
