This is one in a series of boxes planted in the state game lands of northeastern Pennsylvania. If you seek this box, please be aware of hunting seasons. I recommend wearing blaze orange any time of year. I don't recommend seeking this box during deer season, except on Sundays.
State Game Lands 224 is located in Luzerne County, along US-11 between Shickshinny and Hunlock Creek. You'll actually begin your hunt in a very fascinating "rest stop" along Rt. 11. The rest stop is about thre miles north of Shickshinny on Rt. 11, on the left. (If you come to the entrance for "SCI Retreat" on your right, you went 1/2 mile too far.) Pull into the rest stop, and enjoy the amenities.
Clues:
* Check out the "Mountainside Cemetery." From the cemetery marker, head 10 paces at 300* to a smhreall trail.
* Take this trail uphill to a power line. Turn right onto the power line.
* Staying on the power line, go through a significant dip, then another, shallower dip.
* When the power line levels off, watch for a trail going off at 90*, leading to an old dirt road.
* Take the dirt road downhill a short way to a 3-tree on the left.
* From the 3-tree, 11 paces at 50* to a 1.5 tree (once a V-tree, but no longer).
* Suspicious Pile of Rocks (SPOR) in the 1.5 tree.
* Please rehide well.
NOTE: You can return to your car by following this old road down, but it will involve walking south a short distance on Rt. 11, a rather busy road. If you'd prefer, just retrace your steps.
