Stafford Park – Port Hope, MI

M-25 to Port Hope
East on State St. (follow sign to Historical Marker)
Left on Huron Rd
Turn right into parking lot by large pavilion.
Read about the Port Hope chimney, (Built by John Geltz in 1858. All that’s left of the lumber mill by William R Stafford. Destroyed by fire in 1871 and 1881)
Walk towards & down the peer and enjoy the views.
Go over bridge to see where children gather, head north and pass 2 stands of cedar trees.
Continue to a covered gathering area, it will be on your left.
Continue on with rocks to your right, Pass 11 trees on your left and go over a small trench.
Keep the sand to your right and you will come up to a group of trees with heart shaped leaves. (This is a popular tree.)
Take approx. 6 paces North over some grass and sand.
Notice large tree on right with heart shaped leaves and large trunks with roots protruding eastwards.
The largest trunk with roots hides the box.

Please hide well and cover with the flat rocks when you have finished.
