Use the syllable list to fill in the blanks in the puzzle. Each syllable is used once. The number of syllables required is in parentheses after the clue. When all clues have been solved, read the first letter of each word, and then the last letter of each word, to get the location of these boxes.

Syllable list:

RUNAWAY TURTLE
Once you know where to start, begin at the nature center. Outside the nature center, look for recognition of the volunteers of the year. Make note of a couple of them: A = the two digit year when the volunteer sounds like someone who might live in the Detroit mayor’s home; B = century of one who shares a moniker with the oldest Brady girl.

If they are open, go inside and see the frogs, turtles, snakes and other displays. When I was here last, a frog had recently escaped. He roamed free about the nature center, but was then returned safely to his cage. This time, a (rubber) turtle has escaped. Your mission is to go find him! After sneaking out the front door of the nature center, he crawled out to the forest trail. Heading into the woods, he noticed a silver maple (which can quickly grow to 100 feet – imagine that!) He crept past a patch of poison ivy, although turtles don’t worry about their itchy oil. He reached a bench, and rested under it. This bench was in a nice swampy area, which he liked very much. However, the bench was too popular with quick-moving humans. He did not want to be returned to his cage, so he looked for a hiding spot further down the trail, out of sight of the bench. Although it took him all afternoon, he traveled the equivalent of (A) human steps. There he found a two trunk tree, and climbed up into the nook of the tree to rest.

Note: this is a store bought stamp. For Christmas, my niece adopted an endangered turtle in Costa Rica in my name, and gave me this stamp as a token. It was such a sweet gesture that I thought it deserved a place in the wild.

TULIP TREE
Travel past the runaway turtle; observe the old oak (200 year old oak tree on the right). Swing on the vines near a rustic bench. Proceed past pooch poop pouch. See the sassafras? Hiding in the opposing grapevine tangle are many tulip trees. To find the rubber replica, walk (B) steps further on the path. About (B) steps off the trail to the left in a clearing is a large tree. The tulip tree can be found at its base.
