Beaver Pond Letterbox
Glimmerglass State Park
Cooperstown, NY

As of August 15, 2008, this box has been retired.

Hidden by Nectar, Trotter, and Uncle D on July 13, 2003

Glimmerglass State Park is located a few miles south of Route 20 or 8 miles north of Cooperstown on County Rte 31, along the east side of Otsego Lake. There is an entrance fee during the summer months.

Hike: Easy 20 to 30 minute flat walk on grassy/dirt path around the beaver pond, suitable for small children and the elderly.

Clues: Easy.

Enter the park and follow the sign to the Beaver Pond. Park in the small lot that is near the pond. Follow the dirt road to the left of the pond and take the trail marked with 2 yellow circles. About half way around the pond, you'll cross a small wooden bridge with railings. The trail will fork and you should bear right. Between yellow markers 4 and 5 you'll find a moss-covered log to the left of the path. About 10 feet behind this log is a double-trunked tree. To the left of this tree is another log. Behind this log under some bark is the treasure you seek. When you are finished, please make sure the box is well hidden.

Continue on the trail until you reach the park's main road. Along the way, you may find evidence of beavers in the area, as well as deer, song birds and frogs. When you reach the main road, turn right to return to your car. Now that you're warmed up, find Rocky Raccoon's letterbox, also in Glimmerglass State Park, or enjoy a swim in the lake.
