This box has been replaced. It is the same stamp just in a smaller version. There's something special for first finders!

The Lion Bridge, a one-lane passage over Poplar Creek near Route 59 and Golf Road in Hoffman Estates, was built in 1906. There has been a long-standing mystery over its unique design. It was commissioned and built over the summer of 1906 but no one knows why the $3000 project was created and who designed it. Village historians recently celebrated its 100th birthday with cocoa and blueberry muffins.

I chose this site because the school I teach at has a lion as its mascot. I have introduced my classes to letterboxing and created this search for them. It is a great beginning search for anyone. Enjoy the hunt!

Park your car at the pull off lot at Bode Road and Route 59. If you want to see the bridge, walk down towards the stoplight. If you are looking for the box, cross Bode Road and veer right towards the paved path. Be sure to stay to the right as both bikers and pedestrians use this trail. Enjoy the beauty but be prepared for the mosquitoes as you follow the path to the one-mile marker. Look out for the gnarly trees to your right! As you pass the one-mile marker count off 55 paces. On your left side you should see a three trunked oak tree that has seen better days. Look into the space between the trunks to find what you seek. Carefully replace and cover the box. Be careful, this is a blind curve and bikers come zooming by.

Warning: There is an unlisted bonus box connected to this box that has been reported to be surrounded by poison ivy. I will not move it until winter 2012.
