This path often reffered to as the cowpath was used in the early 1900's for the trolley trains that serviced Canobie Lake Park. They traveled from Lawrence, MA along this path to Canobie. One of the locations the track ran through now has a street named after it, Trolley Lane. The path is now often used as a bike trail.

In 1902 Canobie Lake Park was established in Salem by the Northeast Street Railway Company, for people riding their trolleys. People from all over New Hampshire and Massachussets went to Canobie riding these trolleys.

It drew in many people to the town of Salem and gave Canobie Lake Park its reputation. And now it draws people in from all over the Country.

Directions

Take route 93 to Salem get off at exit 1. On your third light take a right on route 28.At your next set of lights turn right on Cluff Crossing rd. Go straight approx. 2 miles. On the left hand side of Cross st. there is Boudreau and Sons it is an open dirt driveway. Do not use during work hours. If you come to the sharp turn with the guardrail you have come to far. Walk out of the parking lot and turn left and walk down the road about 150 feet. look across the road set back in the woods 150 feet is the signal building for the old trolley line. This is on the Massachussets and New Hampshire stateline. The clue will be located behind the signal building hidden from the road.
