Directions:

From I-91 N or S, take Exit 20, Country Club Road. From the southbound exit, take a left at the end of the exit and a left at the stop sign. You will be on CC Road and pass the northbound exit/entrances. From the northbound exit, take a right. You will be on CC Road. Smith Park is on your left past some ugly land clearing on the right that used to be the entrance to the Blue Trail. If you get to Moody School, you went too far. Also, if the gate to Smith Park happens to be closed, there is access to the park from the rear of Moody School.

Information about the park:

A pavilion, ball fields, horseshoe pits, sand area, a play structure and a short hiking trail, looping into a woodland area, which is relatively flat and surfaced with crushed stone, make up some of the offerings at the park. The City of Middletown allows residents to host family picnics at the pavilion, so don’t be deterred if you drive in and see a lot of people at the pavilion. There is ample parking.

Clues:

There are three pieces to building the concrete mixer, starting with the wheels and building up. If you happen to start from the Moody School Parking Lot, you are at the last piece.

To begin the hunt:

Enter the trail on the left before reaching the play structure. You will curve around a thicket and soon enter a wooded area. On your left, a little way off the trail, you’ll see a large three-sister maple. The wheels to your concrete mixer are hidden on the right side of the tree. Be careful of the barbed wire on the left.

Back on the trail you’ll soon see a bridge in front of you. Before the bridge is a seven sister on your left. Four paces before the sisters, look into the woods and see a line of hemlocks, a two-sister lead by two brothers. A little farther back and to the right is an oak next to a "holey" tree. Tucked in back of the rock in front of the oak is the cab.

Cross the bridge and after some diversion at the pond, which was very green last I saw it, continue on the trail. Pass the first opening to the brook, and enter the second opening to the brook. This is just before the trail that goes uphill to the Moody School parking lot. More time for diversion, but first (or last) take a look up the hill to your right and you’ll see a tree where the last piece to the puzzle is hidden – the agitator.

Continue on the trail through some pines and you’ll exit the trail on the far side of the play structure.

Time to play! Hope you had fun!
