This letterbox is part of the GO York Kids Get Outdoors and Be Creative! program. It will be available from June 6, 2009 – September 7, 2009. Further details about the program may be found at www.goyork.org.
In addition, the program uses creativity stations – wooden posts with engraved plates on them – instead of a traditional letterbox and stamp. Please carefully rub the impression from the engraved plate into the program Sketch Book, available at any York County library.
The letterbox is located at Lake Redman, William H. Kain County Park. GO York Kids level of difficulty = Moderate
1. Leaving the parking lot, walk toward the water and the wooden canopy picnic table.
2. After the canopy picnic table, bear left and follow the trail that travels near the shoreline of the lake.
3. Where the trail and shoreline meet, stop and look across the picture perfect lake. Can you see ducks and geese swimming on the lake? How about an eagle or osprey overhead fishing for their lunch?
4. Stay on the lower trail.
5. After walking a distance, the trail will split. A narrow dirt trail will wind uphill and a wide gravel path proceeds straight. Take either trail as they join each other up ahead.
6. At the “Y” intersection, turn right and follow the trail onto the boardwalk/deck.
7. Stop and read about Puddle Ducks. Now walk back 5 adult paces and look for the creativity station on the boardwalk post.
