This letterbox is part of the GO York Kids Get Outdoors and Be Creative! program. It will be available from June 6, 2009 – September 7, 2009. Further details about the program may be found at www.goyork.org.

In addition, the program uses creativity stations – wooden posts with engraved plates on them – instead of a traditional letterbox and stamp. Please carefully rub the impression from the engraved plate into the program Sketch Book, available at any York County library.

The letterbox is located at Rocky Ridge County Park. GO York Kids level of difficulty = Hard

1. Park in the large gravel parking lot at the end of the park road.
2. Locate “Sue’s Trail” and stand at the edge of the parking lot facing the trail.
3. On your right will be a gravel path under the power lines, head down that path.
4. You will be walking down a hill, past a wildlife pond, and back up another hill. Continue on the path until you reach the observation deck.
5. Locate the “What’s In the View?” sign and use it to complete the blanks below. Be careful – you must have the correct answers in order to find the creativity station.
6. After filling in the blanks, leave the observation deck and turn right on trail #1.
7. Count ___ (number of miles to the Western Union Relay Tower) trail #1 marker signs and then turn left on trail # ___ (sum of all numbers in the distance to PA Route 462).
8. Continue on this trail until you reach the wooden bridge.
9. Stop at the edge of the bridge. Turn around and walk approximately ___ (number of miles to TV 49 Antenna) steps back in the direction from which you came.
10. Turn left and look for the creativity station in the woods just beyond the 1st fallen tree.
11. To return to the parking lot, either:
a. Cross the wooden bridge and continue up the hill. When you reach trail #1, turn left and continue to the parking lot.
b. Retrace your steps past the observation deck and wildlife pond. (Longer – 1.12 miles)
