This letterbox is part of the GO York Kids Get Outdoors and Be Creative! program. It will be available from June 6, 2009 – September 7, 2009. Further details about the program may be found at www.goyork.org.
In addition, the program uses creativity stations – wooden posts with engraved plates on them – instead of a traditional letterbox and stamp. Please carefully rub the impression from the engraved plate into the program Sketch Book, available at any York County library.
The letterbox is located at Highpoint Scenic Vista & Recreation Area. GO York Kids level of difficulty = Moderate
1. Locate the gravel path that winds up the hill and through the park. Start your hike here.
2. When you reach the 5th waystop, sit down and look for an off-white house nearby (not the white farm buildings). How many chimneys do you see? ¬¬¬___
3. Continue up the gravel path to the top of the hill. Once there, take in the breathtaking view of the Susquehanna River and surrounding area. Think of how you would paint a beautiful picture of this view.
4. At the top, find west on the star compass and locate the grass trail in that direction.
5. Follow the grassy trail you located until you reach the ___rd post (the number of chimneys you counted). The creativity station is located here.
6. To return to the base of the hill, continue on this grass trail until it meets the main gravel path.
