This letterbox is part of the GO York Kids Get Outdoors and Be Creative! program. It will be available from June 6, 2009 – September 7, 2009. Further details about the program may be found at www.goyork.org.

In addition, the program uses creativity stations – wooden posts with engraved plates on them – instead of a traditional letterbox and stamp. Please carefully rub the impression from the engraved plate into the program Sketch Book, available at any York County library.

The letterbox is located at the Heritage Rail Trail County Park and may be accessed from the Seven Valleys parking lot. GO York Kids level of difficulty = Hard

*** Due to the distance to this creativity station, it is recommended that parents and older children use a bike, and younger children be securely fastened in a carrying device.

1. Take note of the large metal sculptures in the yard. Is this one of your favorite physical activities? What colors is the middle sculpture?
2. From here take the trail south toward the restaurant with the name that means “peacefulness”.
3. Cross over Route 214 on the Rail Trail bridge. What is the color of the railing?
4. At the next crossing, you will see a railing on your right that is the same color as the first railing. Take note of the building on the other side of the tracks. You will learn about a famous bearded man at your final “stop”. This legend grew up in one of these in homes in the backwoods of Illinois. One of his favorite physical activities was wrestling.
5. Continue south and walk past the farm on your left. If cows could talk, they would tell you that you are almost to the creativity station!
6. At your final stop you will see a restored old building. Do you finally know who the famous bearded man was? He stopped here during the Civil War before traveling to Gettysburg.
7. In the side yard of the building you will see four objects forged from iron. These were made in neighboring Lancaster County and at the end with the large hole you can see how much each weigh. Do you think you are strong enough to lift them?
8. Also in the side yard you fill find two sculptures made of old bicycle and tricycle parts. At the base of the sculpture you will find the creativity station.
