This letterbox is part of the GO York Kids Get Outdoors and Be Creative! program. It will be available from June 6, 2009 – September 7, 2009. Further details about the program may be found at www.goyork.org.
In addition, the program uses creativity stations – wooden posts with engraved plates on them – instead of a traditional letterbox and stamp. Please carefully rub the impression from the engraved plate into the program Sketch Book, available at any York County library.
The letterbox may be accessed from Boat Mooring Area #3 at Gifford Pinchot State Park. GO York Kids level of difficulty = Moderate
1. Start at Boat Mooring area #3 off Alpine Road
2. Proceed to Lakeside Trail at the far end of the clearing – beyond the kayak racks
3. Take the right fork in the trail heading downhill. Stay on the gravel part of the trail
4. Go over the pipe, keeping the lake on your immediate right
5. Take the right fork, following the path past the stone wall to the left
6. Take the right fork ahead, staying close to the lake’s edge – see what you can find!
7. Go through or over the large stone wall running perpendicular to the trail
8. Stay on the main pathway (slightly left), heading toward the large boulders ahead
9. Walk just left of the large and prominent boulder and head to the long, low rock right at the edge of the shore. (Remember to be careful near the shoreline!)
10. Head to the right end of the rock, there you will find your treasure by a small cedar tree
