This letterbox is part of the GO York Kids Get Outdoors and Be Creative! program. It will be available from June 6, 2009 – September 7, 2009. Further details about the program may be found at www.goyork.org.

In addition, the program uses creativity stations – wooden posts with engraved plates on them – instead of a traditional letterbox and stamp. Please carefully rub the impression from the engraved plate into the program Sketch Book, available at any York County library.

The letterbox may be accessed from the La-Ho Trail at Codorus State Park. GO York Kids level of difficulty = Moderate

1. Begin at the entrance to the La-Ho trail marked by brown and white trail markers.
2. Remain on the trail as it curves along the lake shoreline and through the woods.
3. After awhile, you will pass a tree on your right that has fallen “into the arms” of other trees.
4. Continue on the trail as it meanders along the shoreline and around another inlet. What can you hear? What do you see?
5. The trail will cross a grassy bridge and begin to go slightly uphill.
6. When you reach the 4-way intersection, turn right on the shaded path. You will notice that it is a partially paved access road.
7. Turn left when you reach the stairs and walk up to the large “marker” stone on the hill.
8. Being careful not to disturb or walk on anything in this area, calculate how many years Jacob Rabenstine lived (_____ years)
9. Looking at the same side of the “marker” stone, turn to your right and follow the trail back downhill. Things should begin to look familiar when you reach the bottom of the hill.
10. Diagonally cross the access road and head back along your original path. The lake will now appear on your left.
11. After re-crossing the grassy bridge, you will notice a narrow, uphill trail on your right.
12. What you seek is about _____ (# of years Jacob Rabenstine lived) up that path.
13. To return to the parking lot, turn right on the main path and follow the shoreline back to your starting point.
